On a cold, December 2008 morning, in a city known more for pirates and sailors, a few brave, gourmet cupcakes lined up row by row in their new little containers with freshly printed labels. The cupcakes waited patiently to be noticed with their brightly colored icing.
And no surprise, the cupcakes were soon carried near and far. Each week, new cupcakes with crystal sugar and chocolate jimmies, took their place and joined new families in Punta Gorda, then Port Charlotte and then some went to Ireland, Iceland and other far away places like Northport.
Each week, three talented sugar artists, hand make these special flavored, jumbo, gourmet cupcakes, with love and care, just for you!
We opened the Sugar Island Cupcake shop in Punta Gorda in the downtown historic district on December 3, 2009.

Come and see us in the Sugar Island Cupcake Trailer at the Punta Gorda Downtown Farmers Market on Taylor Street, every Saturday morning, 8am to 1pm, closing at Noon in July, through September.
We are also at the History Park on Sundays, year round and from October through May, the Englewood Market on Thursdays, and the Libery Church Market on Fridays. Plus we do special events like the Taste of Punta Gorda and the Englewood Pioneer Days.
